ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT INJURY: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS
A torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an injury to the ligament in your knee that prevents you from moving forward.
The ACL stabilizes your knee, so tearing it partially or completely can cause pain and swelling. It’s a common injury among athletes. Ignoring a torn ACL can lead to further injury.
LIA injuries are commonly seen in basketball, soccer and football players, who often jump or pivot in reaction to other athletes. Ignoring an LIA injury can lead to further injury to the knee.

CAUZE
LIA usually occurs in people who are extremely active. Certain movements tend to cause LIA:
landing standing from a jump
overuse of the knee joint
change direction quickly
changing gear while driving
You can also injure your ACL if the side of your knee is hit. This could happen in a car accident or a soccer tackle.
ACL injuries are typical sports injuries. Basketball, skiing and soccer are some of the sports that make athletes vulnerable to knee injuries because these activities involve jumping or pivoting. ACL injuries are two to 10 times more likely to occur in female sportswomen than in men.
SIMPTOME
People who injure their ACL usually hear a sound as soon as the injury occurs. Swelling of the knee generally occurs within six hours of the injury and can be quite severe. The condition can be painful, especially when walking, twisting or stretching the injured leg. You’ll also generally feel that your knee is unstable. After you damage your ACL, it’s very likely that you won’t be able to bend and flex your knee as you normally would.
TREATMENT
If your injury is minor, you can benefit greatly from medical rehabilitation. We’ll customize a treatment plan for you based on the level of your injury to prevent muscle loss and regain leg functionality. Painless activity and decreased swelling is the goal of our rehabilitation program.
If you have surgery, rehabilitation is mandatory after surgery. The rehabilitation period lasts between 3 and 6 months, and depends on your age, the sport you want to do, your lifestyle, etc.
The goals of rehabilitation after surgery will be to decrease sweating, prevent muscle loss, regain knee functionality, strengthen the muscle, work on balance, start running and jumping.
We have excellent experience with LIA patients. For this reason, we have researched the most effective way of treatment and the techniques we have invented from the multidiciplinary approach of combining different methods have worked best with players and sedentary people.
We apply the combined treatment methods of osteopathy, manual therapy, physiotherapy and physiotherapy. We have a great success with this treatment and the treatment time has been reduced compared to classical physical therapy techniques. The treatment protocol should include these important goals: decreasing inflammation, increasing circulation, removing pain, regaining pain-free activities. The treatment plan should be customized according to these goals.
