BURSITIS: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS
We all have hundreds of bursae in our bodies, whose function is to reduce friction between two surfaces moving in different directions. The bursa is found at the points where muscles and tendons slide over bones, and without them, movement would be painful. Bursitis is the inflammation of a bursa that comes from muscles or tendons straining at the wrong time, too hard or from the wrong angle. This is commonly seen in repetitive movements, but can occur through minor impact or sudden, more serious injury.
The most common locations for bursitis are in the shoulder, elbow and hip. But you can also get bursitis of the knee, heel and the base of the big toe. Bursitis often occurs near joints that perform frequent repetitive motions.
CAUZE
The most common causes of bursitis are repetitive movements or positions that put pressure on the bursa around a joint. Examples include repetitive lifting, leaning on your elbows for long periods, kneeling extensively for tasks such as mopping the carpet or floors.
Other causes include injury or trauma to the affected area, inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout and infection.
SIMPTOME
