LOWER BACK PAIN: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS
Low back pain is a condition that affects millions of people, from young to old. It can start as mild discomfort but, if ignored, it can turn into chronic pain that affects your daily activities. The causes vary – muscle strains, incorrect posture or spinal problems – but the good news is that most cases can be treated without surgery.
On the contrary, only in rare cases is surgery really necessary. At Medicine Park, we have successfully treated over 95% of patients in recent years using personalized and non-invasive therapies. We focus on reducing pain, restoring mobility and preventing future problems-without surgery.
So what causes lower back pain and how can you find the right solution? Let’s find out together.

CAUZE
Low back pain can have multiple causes, from simple muscle strains to complex spinal problems. Identifying the exact cause is key to finding the right treatment.
Most common causes of lower back pain
🔹 Muscle strains & overuse – Incorrect lifting of heavy objects or sudden movements can overuse back muscles, causing pain and stiffness.
🔹 Incorrect posture – Prolonged sitting, especially in the wrong position, can put pressure on the spine and weaken back muscles.
🔹 Herniated or bulging discs – When the discs between vertebrae slip or deteriorate, they can put pressure on nerves, causing pain.
🔹 Arthritis & ageing – Degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis can cause stiffness and inflammation in the lower back.
🔹 Sedentary lifestyle – Lack of movement weakens the muscles that support the spine, increasing the risk of injury.
In most cases, low back pain does not indicate a serious condition and can be effectively treated with non-invasive methods. However, in rare cases, pain may signal a more serious spinal problem that requires specialized medical care. At Medicine Park, we evaluate each patient individually to identify the real cause of the pain and apply the most effective treatment.
SIMPTOME
Low back pain can be different from person to person. Some feel a mild and persistent discomfort, others describe a sharp pain that prevents them from moving. But how do you know if it’s just a passing discomfort or a warning sign? Let’s find out.
Recognize these symptoms?
🔹 Dull or sharp pain? – Is it a sensation of mild, lingering discomfort or sudden, intense pain? Both can indicate hidden problems.
🔹 Pain that gets worse with movement? – Does it hurt more when you bend down, lift something or get up from a chair? Your body is telling you something is wrong.
🔹 Morning stiffness? – Wake up with a stiff back? This sensation may indicate inflammation or muscle tension.
🔹 Pain radiating down your legs? – If it radiates to your buttocks, thighs or legs, it could be sciatica-anerve-related problem.
🔹 Sudden muscle spasms? – Ever felt a painful twinge in your lower back? Spasms can indicate overworked muscles.
🔹 Tingling or numbness? – Feeling “pins and needles” in your back, legs or soles may be a sign of nerve compression.
Why shouldn’t you ignore symptoms?
Although it’s always better for your quality of life to turn to our specialists as soon as you feel symptoms, most patients try to resist the pain for weeks or even months. This can aggravate the condition, leading to more serious symptoms, such as:
🚨 Constant severe pain that does not go away
🚨 Weakness or numbness in your legs
🚨 Bladder or bowel control problems
If you are experiencing these symptoms, seek medical help immediately. At Medicine Park, we specialize in diagnosing and treating all types of low back pain. Over 95% of our patients have successfully recovered with non-invasive therapies. Why wait for your pain to get worse? Act now!

DO I NEED A RMN BEFORE TREATMENT?
Many patients think, “I need to see the problem on an MRI before starting treatment.” But the truth is: For most low back pain, the MRI doesn’t change the treatment plan!
📌 Did you know? Medical studies in the US, UK and Germany confirm that physiotherapy is the recommended first step for lower back pain-no matterwhat an MRI shows.
📌 Why is MRI not necessary in most cases?
🔹 Most low back pain is caused by muscles, joints or ligaments-thingsthat MRI doesn’t clearly reveal.
🔹 MRI does not always reflect the level of pain-manypeople have herniated discs or arthritis without any pain(Brinjikji et al., American Journal of Neuroradiology, 2015).
🔹 An MRI doesn’t speed up your recovery! Studies show that people who start physiotherapy immediately recover faster than those who have imaging investigations first (Chou et al., Annals of Internal Medicine, 2011).
🔹 Visualizing MRI results can make pain seem worse! Studies show that patients who read terms such as “herniated disk” or “degeneration” on an MRI report develop more anxiety, avoid movement, and delay their recovery (Foster et al., British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2018).
📌 MRI results do not always reflect the cause of pain!
🔹 More than 30% of 30-year-olds and 60% of 50-year-olds have herniated discs on MRI-butfeel no pain (Brinjikji et al., American Journal of Neuroradiology, 2015).
🔹 A herniated disk visible on MRI doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the cause of your pain! Many herniations are painless and do not require surgery (Chou et al., Annals of Internal Medicine, 2011).
📌 What do international guidelines say?
👉 The American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recommend physiotherapy before MRI (Chou et al., Annals of Internal Medicine, 2011).
📌 Physiotherapy focuses on FUNCTION, not just the IMAGE of your spine.
MRI gives a static picture, but it doesn’t tell us how your muscles, joints and nerves work. That’s why our specialists at Medicine Park use more accurate clinical assessments than MRI to decide the best treatment for you!
What should you do instead?
🔹 Try physiotherapy first – With a 95% success rate, most patients recover without MRI or surgery.
🔹 Have a professional assessment – Our specialists will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
🔹 If necessary, we will guide you further – If further investigations are needed, we will help you make the right decision.
📌 Why rely on imaging when you can start recovery right now? Schedule a consultation today!
