LUMBOSACRALGIA: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS
According to the World Health Organization, lumbosacralgia is the most common cause of work-related disability. At least 80 percent of Romanians suffer from lumbosacralgia in their lifetime.
Back pain can be caused by disk, joint, muscle and ligament problems, or most often by a combination of these. Typically, low back pain can be the result of an acute injury or trauma, incorrect posture or a build-up of stress, resulting from a spinal injury.
However, there are other rarer, more serious causes of lumbosacralgia, which can lead to progressive inflammatory processes affecting bones, muscles and joints.

CAUZE
Low back pain that occurs suddenly and lasts no more than six weeks (acute) may be caused by sudden or heavy lifting. The one that lasts for more than three months (chronic) is less common than acute pain.
Conditions commonly linked to back pain include:
Muscle or ligament strain. Repeated heavy lifting or sudden movement can tighten back muscles and spinal ligaments. If you are in poor physical condition, constantly straining your back can cause painful muscle spasms.
Bulging or ruptured discs. The discs act as cushions between the bones (vertebrae) in the spine. The soft material inside a disc can bulge or rupture and press on a nerve.
Arthritis. Osteoarthritis can affect the lower back. In some cases, arthritis in the spine can lead to narrowing of the space around the spinal cord, a condition called spinal stenosis.
Skeletal irregularities. A condition in which the spine curves sideways (scoliosis) can also lead to back pain.
Osteoporosis. Spinal vertebrae can develop compression fractures if the bones become porous and brittle.
Sciatica. Sciatica can appear as a herniated disk if the disk presses on the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve connects the spine to the lower limbs. As a result, sciatica can cause pain in the legs. This pain usually feels like burning or stinging.
SIMPTOME
Low back pain for many people is often experienced as pain or discomfort, localized between the lower ribs and buttocks, with or without the addition of leg pain.
Symptoms can range from muscle pain to shooting pains, limited movement, altered gait and difficulty sitting upright. If sciatica occurs along with the back problem, the nerve pressure is felt as pain radiating down the leg and possibly into the ankle or foot. There may be a twinge or numbness.
Acute low back pain generally lasts a few days to weeks, and is usually a result of trauma or arthritis. Low back pain that persists for more than 3 months is considered chronic.
TREATMENT
As lumbosacralgias are often multifactorial, we are highly trained to diagnose problems in the joints and soft tissues of the body. We will perform a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan to help you successfully manage your particular problem.
Manual therapy, such as spinal manipulation/mobilization, is often used to relieve symptoms and manage this condition in its acute stage. The exercise program will be designed to help restore muscle strength and retrain exact movement patterns. We may recommend other activities, such as pilates or yoga, to help with long-term back care. We can also help you relieve your lumbosacralgia by using the dry needling technique.
While back pain is becoming a problem for most, our treatment techniques are most effective. Over 95% of patients with lumbosacralgia resolve their problems with our innovative techniques and, most importantly, many patients who have considered or been told to have surgery are treated without surgery.
OUR EXPERTISE
We have a wealth of clinical, specific experience in the treatment of back pain and injuries. Low back pain can be caused for many different reasons, so we will assess your condition and find the most appropriate treatment for your pain.
There are many different structures in the back that can cause pain; such as discs, ligaments, muscles and nerve tissue. We’ll try to find the underlying reason behind the damage to these structures, which will allow you to address the cause of the problem rather than treating the symptoms.
We’ll aim to educate you about your back so that you can better understand the benefits of treatment and how to manage it in the long term, if needed.
Benefit from our lumbosacralgia treatment to become one of our satisfied and recovered patients without surgery!
