MEDIAL EPICONDYLITIS: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS

Lateral epicondylitis is a pain-causing condition in which the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the bony bulge inside the elbow. The pain may spread into the forearm and wrist.

Despite its name, athletes are not the only people who develop medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow). Among the people whose jobs are present with the types of movements that can lead to medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow) include plumbers, painters, carpenters and butchers.

Golfer’s elbow pain doesn’t have to keep you away from your favorite activities. Proper treatment can get you back in the swing of things.

CAUZE

Medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow) is caused by damage to the muscles and tendons that control your wrists and fingers. The damage is usually related to overuse or repeated stress – especially strong movements of the wrist and fingers. Improper lifting, throwing or hitting, as well as too little warm-up or poor conditioning can also contribute to golfer’s elbow.

Besides golf, many activities and occupations can lead to medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow), including:

  • Tennis. Improper technique with tennis racquets, especially the back hand, can cause tendon injury. Excessive use of the top tip and using a racquet that is too small or heavy can lead to injury.

  • Throwing sports. Another culprit may be poor pitching technique in baseball or softball. Football, archery and javelin throwing can also cause medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow).

  • Weight training. Lifting weights using improper technique, such as curling your wrists during a biceps exercise, can overload elbow muscles and tendons.

  • Strong, repetitive job movements. They occur in areas such as construction, plumbing and carpentry.

In order to cause medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow), activity generally needs to be done for more than an hour a day, on many days.

SIMPTOME

You may experience some of the following symptoms if you have golfer’s elbow:

  • elbow pain that is mild at first but gradually gets worse

  • pain extending from the inside of the elbow to the forearm and wrist

  • poor grip

  • increased pain when squeezing or squeezing an object

  • pain when lifting, using tools, or opening jars

TREATMENT

We have excellent experience with athletes with medial epicondylitis. Most players experience this problem at least once in their career. And it’s really important to get back on the field as quickly as possible, in a healthy and consistent way. For this reason, we have researched the most effective way of treatment, and the techniques we have invented from the multi-disciplinary approach of combining different methods, have worked best in players and sedentary people.

We apply the combined treatment methods of osteopathy, manual therapy, physiotherapy and physiotherapy. We have a great success with this treatment and the treatment time has been reduced compared to classical physical therapy techniques. The treatment protocol should include these important goals: eliminating inflammation, increasing circulation, removing pain, regaining pain-free activities. The treatment plan should be customized according to these goals.
