PATELLAR TENDINITIS: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS
Anyone can get patellar tendinitis. Even if we see this problem in athletes, people who have a sedentary lifestyle can also have this problem. Patellar tendinopathy is an inflammation of the tendon that attaches to the shinbone.
This pathology is mainly described in people who play basketball, volleyball, tennis, long jumping, climbing, etc. The tendon becomes inflamed and weak due to overuse. Apart from overdoing sports, this condition is also associated with ageing. As we age, our ability to regenerate damaged tissue decreases and the quality of the tendon deteriorates. Patellar tendinitis usually occurs gradually. There is pain in the tendon that is aggravated by activity. It will feel painful to touch just below the knee.

CAUZE
Tendinitis of the knee (patellar tendinitis) arises from repeated stress on the knee, most often from overuse in sports or exercise. Repeated stress on the knee creates tiny lesions in the tendon which, over time, inflames and weakens the tendon.
Contributing factors can be:
tight leg muscles
changing sport
uneven strength of leg muscles
obesity
muscle weakness
shoes without sufficient padding
chronic diseases that weaken the tendon
Athletes are more at risk because running, jumping and squatting put more force on the patellar tendon. For example, running can put up to five times your body weight on the knee. Long periods of intense sports training are associated with knee tendinitis.
SIMPTOME
Pain in the kneecap is the main symptom of knee tendonitis. Depending on the severity of the problem, the pain can be:
after the activity,
pain after activity, although the patient is still able to perform satisfactorily
prolonged soreness during and after activity, with increasing difficulty performing at a satisfactory level
Pain and tightness are often felt when bending, squatting or straightening the leg and morning stiffness is common.
