The important news: spondylosis does not condemn you to pain. A spine “with mileage” can work very well when supported by strong muscles and regular movement.

What is spondylosis?

Spondylosis is the degenerative process of the spine: discs dehydrate and thin, the small facet joints wear, and bone may form spurs (osteophytes). It can affect the cervical, thoracic or lumbar spine. As with osteoarthritis, X-ray severity does not directly match pain levels.

Common symptoms

Back or neck pain and stiffness, especially in the morning and after rest, reduced mobility, painful episodes after unusual effort and — when osteophytes or discs irritate a nerve root — radiation into an arm or leg.

Common causes and risk factors

Age (the process starts after 30–40 in almost everyone), sedentary habits and weak supporting muscles, poor posture, heavy physical work, old injuries and genetics.

Can it be treated without surgery?

Yes — uncomplicated spondylosis is managed conservatively: therapeutic exercise, joint mobility work, weight control and postural hygiene. Surgery is reserved for rare complications with severe nerve compression.

How we treat spondylosis at Medicine Park

We assess the affected segments, mobility and strength, then build a programme strengthening the supporting muscles, dosed mobility work, manual and chiropractic care for stiff segments, and day-to-day movement education. The goal: a functional, active spine — regardless of what the X-ray says. All in English.

How long until results?

Stiffness and pain typically ease within 4–6 weeks; baseline conditioning builds over months of regular movement — and the programme becomes your maintenance routine.

When to seek help

If back or neck pain keeps returning or has started to radiate, book an assessment.
