Better still: the modern, active approach gets far better results than the old prescription of “rest and be careful”.

What is low back pain?

Pain in the lower back can come from several structures: overloaded muscles and fascia, intervertebral discs, facet joints, the sacroiliac joint. In over 90% of cases it is “non-specific” — no serious identifiable lesion — and responds excellently to correctly dosed movement.

Common symptoms

Dull or sharp pain across the lower back, morning stiffness, pain worse with prolonged sitting or standing, episodes of locking, sometimes radiation into the buttock or thigh.

Common causes

Long hours sitting and poor posture, incorrect lifting, sedentary habits and weak core support, stress (which genuinely amplifies pain perception), excess weight and poor sleep. Rarely: specific causes, which are screened out at assessment.

Can it be treated without surgery?

Yes — non-specific low back pain is treated conservatively; surgery is not an option for it. International guidelines put therapeutic exercise, education and early return to activity first.

How we treat low back pain at Medicine Park

We assess your spine, mobility, strength and lifestyle factors, screen for red flags, then build the plan: manual and chiropractic care for stiff segments, progressive stabilisation exercise, postural education and a realistic daily movement plan. The goal is not just calming this episode — it is breaking the relapse cycle. All in English.

How long does recovery take?

Acute episodes typically settle in 2–6 weeks. For chronic or recurring pain, a 2–3 month programme rebuilds stability and confidence in movement.

When to seek help

If low back pain has lasted more than two weeks or episodes keep returning, book an assessment. Saddle numbness, bladder changes or progressive leg weakness are a medical emergency.

Lower back pain that keeps returning or will not settle?
