Reality: degenerative lumbar changes appear in almost everyone with age, and the link between the image and pain is weak. A spine with spondylosis can work very well — if you support it correctly.

What is lumbar spondylosis?

It is the degenerative process of the lumbar segment: discs dehydrate and thin, facet joints wear, bone spurs form. It mainly becomes a problem when it narrows the spinal canal (stenosis) or nerve exits, irritating nerve roots — but those are developments in a minority of cases.

Common symptoms

Chronic background low back pain, worse in the morning and after rest, stiffness, painful episodes after unusual effort, sometimes radiation into the buttock or thigh. Stenosis signs (pain when walking, relieved by bending forward) need targeted assessment.

Common causes and risk factors

Age, heavy physical work, prolonged sitting, sedentary habits, excess weight, old injuries and genetics.

Can it be treated without surgery?

Yes — uncomplicated lumbar spondylosis is managed conservatively: stabilising exercise, mobility work, weight control and movement education. Surgery is reserved for severe stenosis with disabling neurological symptoms.

How we treat lumbar spondylosis at Medicine Park

We assess segmental mobility, trunk strength and movement patterns, then build the programme: dosed manual and chiropractic care for stiff segments, progressive core stabilisation, postural hygiene for desk and lifting, and a daily walking and movement plan. A spine “with mileage” needs maintenance — we give you the system. All in English.

How long until results?

Pain and stiffness typically improve within 4–6 weeks; baseline conditioning builds over 2–3 months and is maintained through the routine you learn.

When to seek help

If background low back pain is limiting your days or has started radiating, book an assessment.
