The causes of elbow pain are anatomically well defined, which makes precise diagnosis very possible — and targeted treatment very effective.

What can elbow pain mean?

Pain on the OUTSIDE — lateral epicondylitis (“tennis elbow”), by far the most common. On the INSIDE — medial epicondylitis (“golfer’s elbow”) or ulnar nerve irritation (with tingling in the little finger). On the TIP — olecranon bursitis (the soft swelling). Diffuse, with movement block — joint causes. Pain can also be referred from the neck.

Symptoms worth noting

Pain with gripping and lifting (epicondylitis), tingling in the ring and little fingers (ulnar nerve), swelling on the elbow tip (bursitis), stiffness and blocking with bending-straightening (joint), pain climbing to the shoulder or descending from the neck (cervical).

Common causes

Repetitive hand work (desk, trades, cooking), chronic leaning on elbows, sports overload, prolonged bent-elbow positions (phone, sleep) and imbalances along the whole arm–shoulder–neck chain.

Can it be treated without surgery?

Almost always — epicondylitis, bursitis and mild ulnar irritations respond to correct conservative treatment. Severe ulnar compression with weakness is evaluated surgically.

How we treat elbow pain at Medicine Park

We localise the affected structure precisely, test the full chain (wrist–elbow–shoulder–neck), then build the plan: progressive tendon loading, manual therapy, dry needling, ergonomic and technique adjustments. Treatment targets the cause, not just the painful spot. All in English.

How long does recovery take?

Recent epicondylitis: 6–8 weeks. Bursitis: 2–6 weeks. Chronic forms: 3+ months with steady progress.

When to seek help

If elbow pain returns daily for more than two weeks or finger tingling has appeared, book an assessment. Your first assessment at Medicine Park is free.

Elbow pain with gripping, leaning or bending?
