What paediatric kinetotherapy is and when your child needs it
What is kinetotherapy for children?
Paediatric kinetotherapy is movement therapy adapted to a body that is still growing. A child does not get “adult exercises, made easier”: the programme starts from their stage of growth, from the strength they have today and from the concrete reason they came to us — a curve noticed at the school check-up, a back that hurts in the evening, an ankle that gives way at training.
Every session is one-on-one with the kinetotherapist, never in a group. The child performs the movement and the specialist corrects each repetition. At this age a faulty pattern settles in quickly — but it also corrects far more easily than in an adult, and that is the window we use.
From what age do we work with children?
We work with children and teenagers. Your child needs to be able to understand and follow a simple movement instruction and to cooperate for the length of a session.
We do not have a programme for infants and babies. Newborn and infant cases — congenital torticollis, hip dysplasia, delayed motor milestones — call for neonatal paediatric physiotherapy, a separate service that we do not offer. We tell you this on the first phone call, not after you have made the trip to the clinic.
When is it worth booking an assessment?
You do not need a diagnosis to come in. The most frequent reasons parents call us:
- The school check-up noted a scoliosis, uneven shoulders or shoulder blades, or an “incorrect posture”.
- Your child complains of back or neck pain in the evening, after classes or after time at the computer.
- They sit hunched, shoulders rolled forward, and straightening up lasts only a few seconds after you point it out.
- They have a sports injury — ankle, knee, shoulder — and you want them back properly, not just pain-free.
- An injury keeps coming back every time training resumes.
- They tire visibly faster than their teammates, and the explanation seems to be strength or movement pattern, not motivation.
If it is not our case, we say so at the assessment and point you in the right direction. The assessment is free — the question costs you nothing.
What we treat in children and teenagers
Scoliosis and posture imbalances picked up at the school check-up
This is the most common reason a child comes to us. We assess what shows in posture and what happens in movement: which side is working overtime, which has fallen behind, what changes once the child gets tired. The programme works on the strength of the muscles that support the spine, on the mobility of stiff areas and on awareness of their own position — so that good posture no longer depends on someone reminding them.
Kinetotherapy does not replace the doctor’s evaluation. If a doctor has recommended a brace or a specialist consultation, the exercise programme is built around that recommendation, never against it.
Back pain from the school bag and long hours at the desk
A heavy backpack, the wrong chair and five or six hours a day in the same position do to children what the office does to adults: shortened muscles at the front, weak muscles at the back, and a pain that appears in the evening and disappears in the holidays. We work on the balance between the two and, just as important, on what can change at home — how they sit at the table, how they carry the bag, how often they get up.
Injuries from competitive youth sport
Children in competitive sport get injured differently from adults: on top of growth, training volume and early specialisation in a single sport. Recovery does not stop when the pain goes away — that is exactly when most of them go back on the pitch and get injured again. The programme carries on past that point, to the strength, control and confidence the specific movement of their sport demands.
Postural re-education
Correcting the patterns that caused the problem, so it does not come back. This is the part that makes the difference between “it went away” and “it does not return”, and it is why the programme does not end on the day the child has no more symptoms.
What a session looks like
Your child works one-on-one with the kinetotherapist, following a programme built for them. Exercises are chosen to be achievable and to make sense for their age — a primary-school child and a teenager playing competitive handball do not get the same session.
Progress is measured, not guessed: what they could do at the start, what they can do now, what comes next. At the end they get a short set of home exercises — few, so that they actually get done.
The first assessment is free
At the first visit we assess posture, mobility and strength, listen to what you have noticed at home and at school, and decide whether and how we can help. You leave with a clear opinion and a plan — or with a straight “this is not our case”.
Bring, if you have them: the referral or medical letter, the result of the school check-up, any recent X-rays or MRI. None of these are required to come in.
How many sessions are needed?
It depends on the reason and on how quickly your child responds. At the assessment we give you a realistic range, not a round number chosen to sound good. The packages are the same as for adults:
- Single session — 250 RON; the consultation stays free.
- 10-session package — 150 RON per session (1,500 RON in total), no expiry date.
- 15-session package — 135 RON per session (2,025 RON in total), the best price per session.
We are a private clinic and do not work with CNAS or CASMB. You do not need a referral to book an assessment.
What we do not do
- We do not work with infants and babies.
- We do not make diagnoses — the diagnosis comes from the doctor; we assess function and build the movement programme.
- We do not promise that a scoliosis “disappears”. We say what we are working towards, what we measure and when we measure it again.
- We do not keep a child in the programme longer than they need.
What parents ask most often
Does it hurt? No. These are exercises, not painful manoeuvres. Some muscle soreness can appear after the first sessions, as after any new effort.
Can I stay in the room? Tell us when you book and we agree together what works for your child — some do better with a parent present, others better without.
Do I need a referral from a doctor? Not to come for the assessment. If you already have a referral or a diagnosis, bring them — we build the programme around them.
My child already does sport. Isn’t that enough? Sport develops; kinetotherapy corrects. They are different things, and on top of an existing imbalance sport can make it worse.
How soon will we see a change? It depends on the reason. At the assessment we tell you what we are tracking and when we re-measure, so that you see the progress yourself rather than just hearing it from us.
Do you work in English? Yes. The assessment and every session can be held in English, and we regularly work with expat families living in Bucharest.
Bring them in for a free assessment — we tell you clearly what we see and, just as clearly, whether it is not our case.
